She changed outfits three times before returning to the first one. The cream skort was trying too hard. The trousers weren't trying hard enough. Nobody had checked the dress code yet.
Check where you're playing
Private clubs can be traditional. Public courses and driving ranges are usually relaxed. Check the venue website or call the pro shop before planning an outfit around assumptions.
The easy first round formula
A neat polo or athletic top, tailored shorts or a skort, shoes with grip. Add a cap, sunglasses and a light layer if the forecast can't make up its mind. You don't need to dress like a pro. Wear colours you already like.
Test it before you leave
Take a practice swing. Bend down like you're retrieving a ball from the hole. If anything rides up, digs in or needs constant negotiating, leave it at home.
Do you need golf shoes?
Clean trainers are fine for a first lesson if the venue allows them. For regular rounds, spikeless golf shoes give better grip and double as clubhouse shoes.
Finish with a cap and a marker on the brim. Small detail, big finishing move.
For the outfit: add a Fore & Femme marker and magnetic hat clip.
